The aquatic plants in this tank currently is, starting from the top: Bacopa monnieri, Hydrocotyle umbellata, and in the right corner is Equisetum hyemale. The mosses; christmas, taiwan, java, and other types of aquatic mosses that I acquired before are all mixed up in the background mass.
In the center is Cyperus helferi, a couple stems of Egeria densa, and Sagittaria subulata that's running rampant. In the left foreground corner is a stem plants that I forgot the name of, it may be Rotala indica, this plant requires trimming every couple weeks because it does reaches the top. Next to it is a red Cryptocoryne wendtii which is not multiplying since I planted it years ago.
However, in the right corner the green Cryptocoryne wendtii did spread a lot. It used to be covered with that plants, until I uprooted most of it to be given to someone. Also, in that corner is a couple of Nymphaeaceae species, one of the plant had shoot its leaves above the water, then shed its submerged leaves.
Another surprise for me in this tank is the Aponogeton species. It once thrived in this tank. It flowered and produced a lot of seeds which sprouted and almost taking over the foreground tank. I thought I got rid all of it years ago, but I noticed that there is still couple plants that I missed. It's growing slowly, so I won't totally remove it for now.
Other plants included in this tank is three types of Microsorum pteropus, the regular, Windelov, and the Narrow Leaf. There is also anubias in this tank that produced small leaves.
It's not much of an aquascape, just basic garden style--small plants in the front, tall plants in the back. | | Rand_G |

Initially, the salvage cement in front of the aquarium, and the rocks in the side, too, is to prevent dirt and sand from splashing on the glass when it rains. This aquarium tank is located close in an area where the roof does not have a rain gutter; however it does still gets dirty when it rains, but not as much as before when the ground was bare.
I can't wait for the Ajuga and Bacopa monieri to spread out to prevent or mitigate the disturbance of sand and dirt around the area. | | Rand_G |

If this aquarium has an artificial light, it would have look like this.
This picture is taken using Bulb settings, with a wireless shutter release button, and an external Flash. About ten flash of light, from different spots above the tank, has been manually fired. In hindsight, I should have lowered the intensity of the flash and longer exposure so the top area won't be overly exposed. | | Rand_G |

This aquarium tank is given to me years ago, it has scratches and had calcium deposits. I got rid of the hood, which is currently has two strip of clear jalousie window glass to let the sunlight shine down on the aquatic plants. There is still gaps, though, about 3 inches in the back where most of the emerse plants are growing while the roots remain in water, and half an inch in the center.
My dogs sometimes goes here to drink water, which I always try to discourage, and one of the reason I have to refill the water. | | Rand_G |

During water exchange, the tank water is not wasted. It is used to water the terrestrial plants like the Ajuga reptans 'Chocolate Chip' and Bacopa monnieri in the foreground as well as the Syngonium species of plants behind the aquarium tank.
How much I refill the water due to evaporation depends on the months of the year. During summer I do a lot of refill, obviously, about twice a week; less on the rainy season. | | Rand_G |

The afternoon sunlight only last less than an hour for this tank. Even with that short space of time, the plants still reacts favorably by creating bubbles. | | Rand_G |

Outdoor 29 Gallon Planted Aquarium Tank
This planted aquarium evolved over the years. The first couple years, I had problems with green algae bloom--it's because I overpopulated it with fishes, and the plants, or lack thereof, wasn't thriving because of poor choices of subtrate, and neglect. I even put some crawfish, large freshwater shrimp, and apple snails back in the early years, lol.
It became more neglected when I had a new indoor high-end 29-gallon aquarium, with 110 watts of Compact Fluorescent Light for 8-10 hours, Co2 system, and fluorite substrate, with silica sand on the foreground. This is when I did a lot of research, but after couple years, that aquarium retired because I became busy and it was difficult and time consuming to maintain, eventually it became neglected, too. All of the plants that made it transferred to this aquarium tank, a lot of species of plants didn't survive. I missed my Pogostemon helferi, Blyxa japonica, Tonina, and corkscrew vallisneria, to name a few that didn't survive in this condition of environment.
This tank I think is over 5 years, although what you see how the aquatic plants, as well as the terrestrial plants, is arranged and placed is not the same as the previous years. The Bacopa monnieri growing on sand wasn't planned, it just grew from the trimmings that I missed to discard. The Ajuga reptans 'Chocolate Chip' between the salvage cement slab and the base of the aquarium is a new planting which I really love.
This tank does not consume any electricity at all. I do 80 to 90 percent water change twice a month, or more if it seems dirty or the string algae become too much. It get full sunlight during mid-noon for few hours, then a late afternoon sunlight for less than an hour. During those time, the plants are bubbling a lot, oxygenating the water.
Current inhabitants are one electric yellow which I believe is 4 years living in this tank, two convict cichlid (which is an impulse buy a month ago), and one kuhli loach which I rarely see in this tank. There is also lot of ramshorn snail and few trumpet snail, the cleaning crew. I rarely feed the fishes, the electric yellow eats the string algae and other bugs in there, no problems with mosquito. The kuhli loach control the ramshorn snail population and the convict cichlid is learning how to eat the algae, as well. Sometimes I replenish this tank with feeder shrimps.
It's not a Takashi Amano kind of aquascape, which I love and mimic when I had the high end aquarium tank, instead it's more like Diana Walstad, without her theory of adding top soil to the substrate. | | Rand_G |
